One Blanket for One Blanket

October 8 2018 | Blog

So... Drum Roll..... I've just moved one of my most important goals from my 'To Do List' to my 'Ta Dah List'! It has been a dream for me to somehow create a 'One for One' business model and this week it's officially up and running!

For every blanket we sell - you buy - a blanket goes to a mother in Uganda, that way she knows that someone somewhere cares about her, her baby and their future.

We have teamed up with the wonderful Edukid in Uganda who are distributing blankets on our behalf. They are being given out in a very poor area of Uganda called Koch Goma. There are too many mothers there who live in chronic poverty, Edukid works closely with them and the local primary school of 1200 children. They are giving blankets to the most needy of these mums in Koch Goma and in a Health Clinic in Gulu.

Why Edukid? I met their CEO, Chris Turner and he is such an inspirational person (watch this space for our interview with him), and I love their mission.

Edukid started work in Northern Uganda in 2008 – just 9 months after the 21 year child- soldier civil war finished. Tens of thousands of children returned from the bush, many finding they were orphans, or had no family members. Numerous girls also returned with siblings, meaning many were children-led families with no homes to return to or source of income.

Edukid helps children falling within six categories: former child soldiers; abductees; orphans; child-led families, those with HIV/AIDS and those living in chronic poverty. They provide both primary and secondary education. Some children chose to progress to the equivalent of our ‘A’ Level, but most choose to go onto vocational training. Students are then helped to prepare a business plan and are given a small business loan to enable them to set up in practice and earn an income.

They also work in Cambodia and Gaza, I chose Uganda because I spent my childhood in Kenya so feel a deep connection to Africa.

5% of our sales will also be going towards their sponsorship programme, you can read more about this here.

I want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all of our customers XXXX

Without your custom, support and love for my little brand I could never have achieved this........ THANK YOU AGAIN XX

Here's to the future and helping many more Mamas and their Babes!
